The portal appeared with a flash of light that blinded most of the people in the city, their eyes tearing up as they tried to peer through the swirling spots that filled their vision. Oddly, no one heard a sound at first, just the flash and the swirling ring of clouds hundreds of feet in diameter that hung in the sky for a moment, before the center of the ring turned black as night, and suddenly something began to emerge.
The appendage that came out first looked like a hand at first, with odd blue fuzz on it, and weirdly shaped fingers, but as the rest of the thing began to appear, the people below recognized it as something else. It was a wing, on some massive blue avian things that looked oddly humanoid, with two arms and legs, and a face that looked more human than not, save the ebony black beak that gleamed wickedly in the sunlight.
The thing wore clothing, as well, a huge shirt and pants that rippled and moved in the wind as it came from beyond the portal. Birdlike feet, if not the legs, came down on the city streets with a weight that was beyond powerful. Cracks formed in the concrete the continued for half a mile at least, even as the weight settled, and those in the tunnels beneath the city found themselves crushed by weight of falling rocks.
Still stunned, no one dared to so much as breath, as the avian thing turned aside, and offered a hand/wing to another of its kind, this one obviously female given the curves of its body, but wearing a red dress that seemed to cling to it, which sparkled blindingly in the daylight. The pair, once fully emerged, looked around with smiles that tilted the edges of their beaks, before they moved forward.
The populous finally awoke from their stupor as claws thick as trucks carved deep furrows into the ground, and the buildings shook with the weight of each step as the titans continued forward. Screams came from below, either unheard or simply unheeded by the pair, who actually began to laugh to themselves, as the male pointed at something that caught his eye on the horizon.
Then things got worse, as the male reached out to the side, and with his finger feathers, tore a section of building away, a few people tumbling down to their deaths far below, their cries for help echoing even in the tumult of terror that had gripped the city. Soon enough, it was revealed that this were the lucky ones, as the avian hand plucked what humans he could from the side of the building next, holding them in his palm, and looking down at them.
With a seemingly delicate touch, he took one of the humans up in between his fingers, and then held it out to the lady, who chuckled at him, and then leaned down, opening her beak wide. There was a sharp scream from the person in his grip, for just a moment, before he was dropped into the waiting maw, the tongue rising up to catch him, and then snapping shut with a deafening clack, just before the birdlady swallowed him whole, a tiny bulge moving down her neck, before vanishing beneath her dress.
This show of horrors continued for several minutes, as one by one, those people found themselves used as grapes for the pleasure of the avian pair, the female trilling and letting out a caw as the last one slipped down into her belly, and she licked at her beak. Grabbing her mate with both hands, she locked their beaks together, and as one, they stumbled backwards, their bodies smashing into one of the buildings.
The foundation of the skyscraper was tough enough that it held for a moment despite the impact. The stone and steel were not giving enough to topple the building around them, and it merely bent a little, at least until the female bird deliberately shoved herself forward. A crack like a bomb going off could be heard for a mile around, as the building the male bird was leaning against finally surrendered to the mass it was trying to support, and it slowly fell backwards.
Just as it fell, the female pulled her partner away, and they watched the structure tumble, slamming into a neighbor, and then like dominos falling one after another, dust, debris, and far worse filling the streets as the downtown area became nothing more than rubble, all the while the avian pair laughed at the destruction, enjoying the sight of something so easily smashed submitting to them.
When the final building settled, the cloud of dust filling the air, the pair seemed to think their work done, and they walked back to the still open portal, stepping through it, and then vanishing into the infinite darkness beyond. All at once, another flash, and the portal was gone, leaving the city in ruins behind them, the cries and rumblings of destruction a grim symphony that played on into the night.
