Speaking of the grandpa... I have a theory that he was a member of the cult before he died.
In one of the optional intro/backstories at the beginning it's mentioned that the year he died they had a flood. At the end of the game the cultist say that the flood happened because they failed to feed the "black goat" at the time. My theory is that it was Mae's grandfather's turn to pick the sacrifice at the time and he died before he could; delaying the sacrifice long enough for the "black goat" to get angry.
