Three word IBSFA monster creation with the words temporal, winged, and prison.
The Temporal Prison, or more commonly known as the Whirling Orb of What The Hell, is a strange construct of revolving rings and gears, surrounding a bright orb of light with a pair of feathered wings made of an unidentified material. Scholars generally think that the orb is a prison for a being beyond our dimension. So very little is known of the Temporal Prison; they tend to be passive, hovering alone or in small groups, seemingly not taking any notice of events happening around it. It is a physical object and can be bumped into or knock objects over. They are not limited to any location with reports of these constructs suddenly appearing in the middle of towns or found in abandoned dungeons and crypts, and can remain in those locations for many years before suddenly disappearing again.
Of the few instances where the constructs have been engaged in combat, the physical material of the creature is very tough and extremely resistant to physical combat and the orb of light is immaterial to any kind of contact. Magical attacks do seem to be more effective and in the very few cases where the revolving rings of the orb have been split, the construct completely falls apart and orb of light disappears in a flash.
The Adventurers' Guild advises members not to bother attacking Temporal Prisons because it takes too damn long to kill and it will ruin your gear. Instead they ask, if possible, to gently push it into the direction of a nearby scholar for study.
