reminds me of a band I heard as a kid. They played music from the andes at the Portland OR cinco de mayo festival, all panpipes an drums. It was beautiful. I bought a tape and have since lost it, so I dont remember their name. I only remember a few the band members had really bad burns on their face and hands, like they'd survived a fire. The record was called Valle De La Luna, and it was so beautiful
"Valle de la Luna" is really famous number in this type of music, which is called andean folklore. Valle de la Luna is a name of a valley in Bolivia. I have no idea which group you listened to, but I guess that they got involved in a politically-connected problem. It's really sad.
I found Valle de la Luna on Youtube.
