In true fantasy tradition, I've long given thought to creating a map portraying the world in which my fantasy tickling story series - The Jain Swiftblade Saga - is set. Thanks to sf852000 (a true MVP), I've been able to make my vision a reality! He pointed me in the direction of 'Inkarnate' - a piece of online map creation software currently in Beta.

After a few minutes watching a tutorial on YouTube, I was off and away creating a map of 'The Old World', in which the Jain Swiftblade Saga takes place. Inkarnate is incredibly easy to use, and I had great fun employing the superbly detailed icons and symbols to desired effect. In fact, many of these cartographic objects even gave me ideas for new stories and settings!
In any case, I hope the map provides readers of the upcoming Jain Swiftblade saga with increased clarity as to where the unbearably ticklish Warrior Vixen travels on her many adventures.

Didn't realise it was doing to be that helpful, that fast. ;) Very good work on the map here indeed, gives a nice overview of the Old World and the different places within it. I seem to recall there being an Empire located around this one with a male dominated theocracy, correct? Going by names, I'm guessing that Equina was the home of the horse knight from one of the original stories anyhow. :P Glad the link was able to help and produce such a good result from it.
Mate, you were on-point with this one. Thanks so much for the suggestion.
The empire you mentioned would be the Holy Reman Empire. In the rewritten story, it's not a Theocracy, but the context behind its name is explained in my new version of Book One. It's essentially a parody of the Holy Roman Empire, which Voltaire famously dismissed as 'neither holy, nor Roman, nor an empire'. Spot-on with Equinia. Thanks again for your help!

No worries, glad it turned out so well.
So, would that be 'constantly clashing with the Pope' HRE? Or 'get rid of the title before Napoleon steals it' HRE? :P It's a good source to have as a fantasy setting and one you don't see all that often, sadly.
Were you thinking of giving a brief run down of the nations and powers in the Old World at all? I'm guessing that the Holy Reman Empire stretches from Gallea to the west to the Orcish Fens in the east? And Karramech is a sort of pirate-port with slavers and all that nastiness?

I'm very pleased with it!
More the former; the world in which the JSS is set is intended to be late medieval/early-modern. I may well include allusions to a church-state conflict in later stories. I'd already given thought to Jain being interned by the Reman Inquisition (which she didn't expect - nobody does), and undergoing conversion as a heathen. And yes, the best fantasy contains recognizable real-world parallels.
Yes - a brief summary of each political entity is included at the beginning of Book One of the JSS, and will be in each subsequent story. Indeed - one thing Inkarnate lacks is a tool for etching-out political borders. I tried to make the boundaries of each kingdom/entity in the Holy Reman Empire pretty obvious by using rivers and mountains to act in their stead. Such natural geographical features have of course always been used to denote territorial boundaries.
Karramech is a Noobian trading port used primarily by slavers. The Tower of Woe is were their guild is based, and where their chattels' wills are initially broken, before they're transported across the Great Southern Desert (via the Oasis of Tears) to Noobia itself for sale in the slave markets. The Isle of Sharks I'd had pegged as a Pirate Port - sharks (Carcharodonians) as pirates is a cool concept I've already included in Book One.

Heya!
I was, too - a complete novice before I used Inkarnate. The application is, however, very user friendly and I picked it up very quickly whilst watching this YouTube video 'How-to' guide on my second monitor:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lA9aWcxzvc4&t=308s
You basically start with the 'bottom' layer of geography and work your way 'up'. For example: Sea - land - terrain features (rivers/mountains) - settlements.
Hope that helps!
