People who like widely disliked things often know that there are likely to be comments about disliking them. I obviously wouldn't take a flamethrower to a spider regardless of its size, so it was a joke. I hate spiders completely, but the only time I kill them is if they touch me or the things I sleep on or my computer. Other than that, they stay away from me, they get to continue living.
If you like spiders, this is the perfect place for you, my back yard had a giant lump of what used to be a tree, and inside it was a pack of huge tranchula like spiders. I ran my ass off and never went back there again shouting "nope nope nope all the nope" along the way.
Anyway, it was meant as a joke for all those who dislike spiders, something they'd agree with and enjoy seeing.
I like snakes, but I don't get all offended when someone comments on a picture of my snake and tells me snakes should die or something.
Don't let a simple comment good or bad get to you, shrug it off, make a joke, whatever. Sorry that it offended you though.

Jumping spiders are adorable. When I find spiders in my house I always catch them and put them outside. Anything that eats mosquitoes is a friend of mine!

Heh, didn't know these kinds of videos were done for non-birds, too.
I take any spider outside that is not a pholcid, as those are exclusive house spiders around here and can't survive outside. They also managed to eat all the Indian meal moths I had breediong in my apartment.

I'm not sure it makes much difference, I saw one fairly large one expire after standing out in the sun too long watching for a chance to pounce a fly, or at least I didn't see any other reason for it to have died unless something else killed it while I was away and left it in the same spot.
They can be pretty fun to watch sometimes, they hunt the flies that come to land on the porch to eat the cat-food crumbs, I once saw one of average to small size grab a fly bigger than it was and the rodeo was on! The spider managed to keep at least two feet anchored at all times as the fly flew in circles with the spider astride its back, it wasn't going to let such a big meal go easily! I had other things I had to attend to, but when I left them the fly was just starting to show signs of tiring after at least a minute of spinning, so I'd imagine that little spider had a big meal! (unless a larger spider took it away, that is)
