EEEDITS: oh what the hell it shrunk it. Maybe this link will work? http://fc00.deviantart.com/fs45/f/2.....by_Mokibus.jpg
Big file, sorry! :c
Well, my friend Ryoki had been asking for a tutorial for a while, so here it is. xD It's really not as much of a tutorial as it is a walkthrough. I'm not even done with the picture yet, but I'll show you guys when it's done.
Also! This tutorial is for tablet-users, sorry! The pen-pressure variable for the brushes is vital for this. PS this is what your brush settings should look like: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y1.....h_settings.jpg
Also, about isolating the sketch. I just set it to a multiply layer, but the better way is like this: http://budgie.deviantart.com/art/Ea.....orial-57616954
If anyone else has questions let me know
PS ignore the fact I messed up the layers in the beginning 8c I accidentally made the base colors and the multiply-shading on the same layer. Don't do that!

this is true! i really should try your style then! i'll just put a colour pallette on one of the layers the side, should help keep layers to a minimum * i'm a dork, i go back to layers and hide layers and use the eyedropper for that colour X D i like your idea mucho better
oh yes X D haha i know the eyedropper is useful X D i just meant i use too many layers and have the base colours on the layers when i should have one layer as a colour pallette : p
and thanks! i'll be posting when i finish( hopefully by the end of the week, but i'll take more time if needed) i've still got this tab opened up just so i can try your method for the newer piece X D i get rather confused, but i'm really hoping i can end up doing it right* it's sort of a shilouette picture*

Oh wow! How useful. :U I've recently been trying to get into the digital painting scene (After a while, having big black lines defining the edges of your artwork is just annoying), and this is great. I must ask, did you merge all the layers into one and just go from there? I'm a little confused on how you use the layers once you get past the opening of the tutorial.
And, any hints you can pass on to a rookie?

I'm glad you find this useful! :D I keep the layers exactly the same as in the beginning, with the painting layer containing everything done "On To Painting!" and on.
AND UH when you draw, if your computer can handle it, draw as big as possible. You never know when you'll need a really high-res picture, like for making prints. I'd draw at at least 300 DPI, which you can change in the Image Size setting in photoshop. Also....by the end of it you want to be concealing the sketch completely, really just using it to plot out your base colors. I would also highly recommend watching this video tutorial: http://www.vimeo.com/10743423 It's a little lengthy but it's totally worth it.
I hope that helped! c: Happy painting!

Wow, thanks for replying so quickly! I appreciate it! So, on the painting layer you do absolutely everything besides the sketch for guidelines? Wouldn't that make the base colors and shading layers unneeded? I'm just a little confused is all. :<
Thanks in advance, though. That video is still loading, but from what I've seen it seems fantastic.

I like to make the base colors and shading layers just as guidelines, like planning before I spend the time to paint. It's a couple extra steps, but it helps me plan out ahead so I don't start painting and being like I HATE THIS and erasing half of it, or realizing I've messed up the light source or something. You could do without, for sure, but I like to be cautious haha.
No problem :O It's a big video but it's worth it I think.
