passing someone you don't know
one day on the street
your paths have never crossed before
you never again will meet

you say "hello" and then part ways
no time for interaction
a stranger is all he is to you
and all you are to him

but in that moment you have passed
an extraordinary wonder
a life unique in history
with dreams and pains and blunders

much like yourself this stranger
has his own story to relate
but you didn't stop to hear it
you couldn't bother to wait

though our lives seem more significant
than those that we don't live
you may hear of wonderful things if you find
just a single moment to give

Whenever I pass someone on the street I always wonder what their lives are like, what makes them tick, what kinds of experiences they've had that I'll never know. It's interesting to think how different, or how similar they are to me and how I'll never really know them.
