FA's one-day banner for Towel Day, a sort of tribute to the late Douglas Adams.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Towel_day
(I realize it came coincidentally in line with Memorial Day this year. It was in no way meant to be offensive or to belittle the meaning of that day to those of you who have served, or in my case, lost several close friends and loved ones in service to their country.)
Design PS: (Yes, the movie kinda went off course half-way through it, and heavily shunned by fans of the book, but Marvin's design in it was a better imo than the freaky kill-bot look'n thing from the BBC series.)

Vogons are an alien species in the Hitchhiker series. They are extremely bureaucratic, to the point where they can't scratch their noses without permission forms signed in triplicate.
Rule 34 stems from 4chan, and basically states that you can find porn about anything on the internet.

Actually, it had always been integral to the storyline, from the moment Arthur and Ford discovered who was on board the Heart of Gold in all versions of HHGTTG, and moreso in later books (ie: Arthur's daughter Ransom- Yes, Trillian is her mum!)... The Arthur/Trillian/Zaphod love triangle was actually a source for alot of the tension between the main characters.

That's a good question, as Mr. Adams was born March 11, 1952, and died (according to the IMDB) on May 11, 2001. Wikipedia cites the original article that began Towel Day was posted at "Binary Freedom", on May 14, 2001, just shortly after his death. The date of May 25 for Towel Day was purposely chosen to honor Mr. Adams as it marks the 2 week point after his passing:
Towel Day: A Tribute to Douglas Adams
Monday May 14, 2001 06:00am PDT
Douglas Adams will be missed by his fans worldwide. So that all his fans everywhere can pay tribute to this genius, I propose that two weeks after his passing (May 25, 2001) be marked as "Towel Day". All Douglas Adams fans are encouraged to carry a towel with them for the day.
So long Douglas, and thanks for all the fish!

It is Great from you to Honor His lifeworks in your art, Sadly the Rules '42 and '34 dont come over as the way you planed it, BUT this is the Interweb it is only about Bawwing, Spaming and Flaming each other, so i decided not to take ANY of the words that i Read/write serious!

That's the best banner I've seen!! I agree about the film - it was crap compared to the book, but Marvin was brilliant in it. I actually though all the characters except ford and trillian were portrayed really well.
I also love the idea of puttin Fender as Marvin. Once again, nice one!!
Anyone for a Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster to celebrate a sucessful towel day?

ok.... so... according the the rules of life, the univers, and everything, towels cant be used in conjunction with the rule about being able to find porn on anything? =3 i find that hard to believe.
i wore a towel to work yesterday, and there was indeed a few people wearing towels back. not to mention that towel came in handy so much! it rained, i used it as an mbrella, it got in the car, i cleaned it up, my butt hurt, i used it as a cushion. =3 douglas adams was a genious, he will be missed.

Am I the only one who liked the movie? Every version of the story had changes, according to Wikipedia.
Also, there's the fact that it ends with a)Marvin being awesome, and b)a planet full of ghosts. No wonder Arthur left.

Lol furry marvin :p. Love the artwork. Nice banner, though must admit sort of confused me for a while (ill admit im not a massive Douglas Adams fan, i know too many fanatics who instantly blow a wad if you mention his name or his work, so i automatically couldnt care less >.>).
Eitheray keep up the good work, and hope to see some more of your char soon, always loved the style and design of him ^.^

I never saw the BBC series, so having nothing to compare it to but the book, I thought the movie sucked...
Douglas Adams' humor was mostly in the writing, things that can't easily transfer to a movie. But yeah.
R.I.P. One of three of my favourite authors that are gone too soon.

I had older relatives serve in wars, I've honoured them and, in some cases, their deaths. I may be joining the military sometime myself. So... when people get pissed about Towel Day stealing Memorial Day's thunder, maybe they should realize that some people would rather feel good again and think about other things than tragedies of the past that shouldn't be brought up just because it's a certain day of the year; rather it should be something we've already honoured and continue to honour by living the lives that those brave ones fought for us to have.
Sorry to bring this up on here but people should just chill... and it's a well made banner, did D.A. justice quite well.

"or in my case, lost several close friends and loved ones in service to their country."
Then why not spend the day representing your close friends and loved ones who died instead of making a joke with the banner.
Not meaning to be rude or anything. If it was cancer awareness day or something I'd do something cancer-related to represent those who have/had cancer [in my case my mom and brother], not make a joke.

Because my friends were like-minded of myself and felt humor was important. If I died on the anniversary of the movie Aliens being released, I'd prefer John Carman's work of terror to be celebrated than my inability to stay alive.
I love the cancer arguments though-- "What type of cancer" is my first response. You can't just generalize cancer into one fucking category! By that same line of thinking why isn't there a Flu-Death Awareness day? 40,000 a year die to that, yet we can cure that!!
And I FIRMLY believe that the phrase "don't make fun of" is COMPLETELY relevant to who in attendance can't take a joke. If you believe in an afterlife and can't take a fucking joke, than your God has issues. And if the afterlife is supposted to be the greatest damn thing to happen in EVAR- do you seriously think they still remember the living? (remembering the living = sorrow, afterlife has no sorrow. LOGIC ERROR)
TL;DR version:
"WHYiie SO SERIOUSss-SUH!"

Alright, alright alright, so maybe the movie DID go way off course from the book, WHATEVER. Douglas still had a hand in it, and I just claim it to be a different telling of the same story. I rather liked it, so long as you don't get stuck in the ways of "IT'S NOT THE BOOK SO IT'S TERRIBLE!" Alternate Universes peoplez. They happen. TO YOUR GIRLFRIEND D8
Anyway... on to the actual banner...
I Lurvz it xD It's wicked awesome, and your style pulls it off great in combination. x3

I've kept one thing in mind my whole life(mostly because my father gave me the book at a young age to read): Don't panic. I've done pretty good at that my whole life. Even if it's just not showing that your panicking, don't panic.
I've read a good portion of the trilogy, but since my dad only had the first four, I didn't get to read the last one.
In any case, a fitting tribute to a awesome author. Or at least fitting for what site this is.

I admit the movie, like I said in the description, is pretty good up until the moment they try to get to Magrathia. They had to shorten and change things around --
BUT ya know what the catcher is? Douglas Adams WROTE THAT EDITION (sure he wrote it nearly a decade before the movie was made, but he did it)

Heh, I was the only one around here with any balls to go into the theater with a towel to see the film. May his stories live on. My dad had the old computer game based on the first movie, completed with the danger glasses, a don't panic pin, and a tiny plastic bag said to contain a microscopic intergalactic space fleet.
