"Stop gabbing and take your goddamn drinks already!"
I've been toying with the idea of injecting some personality into my characters a bit, lately. As it currently stands, my 'characters' are all pretty much just bodies that I make do perverted things to themselves and each other. For a long time I was okay with that too- I'm not really a story teller, I just draw smut. But lately for some reason I've had a bit of an urge to try to push a bit farther than that. Maybe dip my toes into telling some simple stories or filling out my characters a bit. Mostly because you can make more interesting porn that way, heh.
Hey, I am who I am.
Unfortunately the first bit of inspiration to come along was for the character who was never really supposed to be a character. She's just a tiny generic fox, there are billions of them, but I got to thinking about how it would be fun if she had a job that would trigger her short fuse on a regular basis but not allow her to act out on it so she'd have all sorts of pent up frustration to work out at home later. (See, I told ya)
Waitress seemed like the obvious choice. So bam, smallfox is a waitress who has to put up with idiots all day long. Carrying around all those heavy drinks probably ain't easy for someone so small either.
Currently just sort of at a 'random stream of consciousness' stage here and might never get into any big projects or anything, but a little glimpse into the lives of my characters couldn't hurt, right?
Just a doodle, but feel free to let me know whatcha think if you like. Also, if you've ever worked as a waiter/waitress, I'd love to hear your stories of dealing with stupid people. Those are always fun! x3
Edit: This submission timed out when I uploaded it... this happens somewhat regularly and I have a fear that people don't necessarily get notified when this happens. If you're watching me and you see this sketch but it was never in your inbox, lemme know eh? I don't want to bug people with re-uploads but if half the people don't get a notification it'd make me sad, heh.

This is so cute! There is something wonderful about a small servant type character having heavy burdens (figuratively or literally) to carry, either as the mild mannered "straight" employee to a brash boss, or as a meek sidekick to a bold hero, a squire to a knight, or like this, a put-upon waitress.
...
And, now I have read the description of this piece, and it seems I'm not alone! :D
Maybe it's the pathos involved with such a character that makes them appealing.
As for creating characters to improve smut: I am all for it. It's sort of more intimate that way. The smut then involves persons rather than just generic bodies.

I was looking for references for outfits and saw the little hat thing and liked it, so I tossed one in. But I obviously couldn't keep the same restaurant name that the reference had... then this popped into my head and it's like a quadruple-entendre so it seemed perfect. x3
Here's another waitress picture I found amusing.

I like yours too. She's a cutie.

I think your character is good. :3
Here is something that I learned recently when trying to flesh out my D&D character:
Remember that people think about themselves. If your waitress has a short fuse because of her job she probably knows that and is likely to some degree trying to work out her character flaw. Knowing that she could be seeking help from some source or trying to work it out by herself, possibly pretending it's not a problem. Maybe she's stressed about her demeanor at work putting her job in question some day, and that's only making her fuse even shorter. Once you give a character self perception it's very easy to create a multi-dimensional character.
Also once you have multiple fleshed out characters you can imagine them having conversations with each other about their ideals. Like in my D&D game in my head I simulated my character and my character's familiar talking about their views on how to do good for the world. My character is more the type to try to give people space and help them be themselves the best. My character's familiar instead wants to create long term systemic change to help people based on his view of what is good for the world. Imagining them talking gave me insights like having my character acknowledge the alternate viewpoint but decide to stay the way he is because he doesn't think he would be able to keep his bubbly and helpful personality if he got so wrapped up politics and moral greys, arguing that everybody has their own way to help the world and that it wouldn't work for everybody to be one way or another. Sure, that level of detail is probably a bit much for the characters you probably want to make, but it can be a useful exercise.
Hopefully this gives you some food for thought when making characters.

Do it! I agree with what you said about giving them some depth. Something that I've done with one of my characters (with more to come) is an interview for different characters. I can link you to the one I did and before I wrote and posted it, I even asked for input from my watchers with questions they'd like for the character to answer. That made it a lot more personal to that specific character. What I love about interviews and Q&As is you can leave it open for sexy questions, general trivia (what's your favorite movie, etc.), personal, and even uncomfortable (to the character).

I didn't get notified. In fact, it seems to happen quite often. It's not the first time I find new art from you in the gallery thingy under the picture instead of the notification menu.
As for the character, I love that you're fleshing her out, I really like her. Every now and then, I write stuff with other people's characters, as an exercise. Perhaps I could write something with her in the future, if you're ok with it. I'm sure she'd be fun d:

I time out fairly regularly when trying to upload... I usually just let it go since I don't like the idea of sending people notifications for the same picture more than once, but if half the people aren't getting one at all sometimes, maybe two is better than none, heh.
I'm certainly not against the idea of having things written about her! Maybe once we've got a more solid idea of what her personality and traits are, that'd be pretty sweet.

I personally wouldn't mind. Perhaps you could make a poll? See if it's a sizeable group that's not getting notified. Strawpoll.me is rather straightforward to use for these simple questions.
And I'll keep an eye on her. I really liked her since you started toying with this design. Have you thought of a name, perhaps?

It's tricky for me since I don't really have any stories to tell... the extent of my creative urges is usually "man, I wanna draw a blowjob today". Not a lot of story necessary there. I mean sure, it can help, but I'm usually too busy drawing said blowjob to stop and think about it. x3
But hey, when ideas come to mind, I guess I'll play them out and see what happens!

You asked for stories of dealing with stupid customers. I dealt with tons and tons of Grade A, Primo-Select Morons waiting tables in high school, but never once did I get a funny story out of it! : < It was mostly just burly assholes on their cellphones and shrill parents letting their kids run wild. Once, a guy yelled at us because we ran out of crayons for his son to draw with!
Anyway, I hope you go nuts with adding personality and flair to your porn bodies, if it makes it more fun to do!! This pic is super cute!

Never worked in a restaurant, but I can very much sympathize with her plight there. I worked retail customer service for six years, and if there's one thing that irritated me more than anything, it was customers that made me wait when I was carrying or moving heavy product. Especially when they were yakking on their cell phone instead of paying attention to the guy that's supposed to be helping them.
On the other hand, sore muscles are a great excuse to ask the SO for a massage - which can lead into other pleasant activities if neither party is too exhausted. ;)
