Having a good ol' punch up with us Brits prevented a scrap with Chile and saw the return of democracy (after a decade or so without free elections) from what I understand. It's a shame that lives were lost over such the conflict for such results though.

I agree. Now, politics is not my business, but here goes my opinion: As argentinian, most of the people think I'm crazy because I support brits. And I meant, of course, Malvinas islands are inside of our territory, but as country the only real action that we do in to recover them in almost 200 years was just a effort of the few bravest soldiers that this land would ever gave and the useless speach of the commanders who doesn't did anything for them. If a country doesn't defend their interesst with the fierest decision, it doesn't worth them.
But beside that, thanks to brits we have trains that make big this country, I really like british history since the first celtics tribe to today, I like the countrysides, their culture, many of her bands and many more things
