Continuing my latest edition of "Throwback Thursday", I have another 'photo-op', taken back on Sunday, April 9, 2017, from the Sawgrass Nature Center & Wildlife Hospital in Coral Springs, Florida. Once again, my brother used the digital camera part of his smartphone to capture this image of avian splendor...
Of the many birds we saw at the nature center, one that impressed us both was a great white heron - who shared his cage with an egret and a turtle. Nearly hunted to extinction (many years ago), this particular bird is making a comeback here in the 'Sunshine State' (thriving in the Keys, specifically)...
My brother was in the right place at the right time, when he took this specific 'photo-op', as one of the park rangers was trying to coax the heron off of the rock she was perched upon. (See her arm on the right side of the picture.) Glenn snapped the shutter, just as the bird took off, displaying its very wide wingspan (for the briefest of moments), before it lit upon the other side of the man-made pond in the cage. (Subsequently, this gave my sibling a golden opportunity to take a 'close-up' pic of the heron - which I will post next time!)
All 'photo-ops' (currently) appearing in my 'Gallery' will eventually get transferred to my 'Scraps' section - effective July, 2017...
