[i]On an island inhabitated by giant arthropods and animals that seem like vastly different phyla had been spliced together, the massive bovine seems as out of place as any of the other native fauna would be somewhere else, and one of the island's inhabitants with the lowest infection levels with MUTO symbionts. Having an amphibious lifestyle with a preference to slow-moving, swampy water full of vegetatin it also feeds on, it has wide hooves to prevent sinking in the soft mud and is often covered with the plants it tears up while moving. Additionally, the sker buffalo has a very coarse fur that faciliates the growth of algae and higher plants, turning the animal a speckled green. The alga content in its fur is so high that in one case where a sker buffalo was attacked by a skullcrawler in water, there were green clouds billowing out of the fur mixed with blood, which led to the assumption they would have a separate system of chlorophyll circulating in their bodies. The myoglobine content is closer to that of a whale rather than a water buffalo, which together with its unusually slow metabolism allows the animal to submerge for several hours, either to feed or to camouflage itself against the dangerous predators of the island. The only time sker buffalos have been observed making any rapid movements were fights among bulls, which are usually as quickly over as they have started or going on for hours in rare occasions. Cows' horns don't split up, making them more effective as weapons to defend themselves and their calves from predators.[i]
I decided to expand the areas to bullshit (heh) about since reading those Monarch files about the Kong: Skull Island creatures, which made my toes curl up, since a lot of the info they dumped into them makes zero sense and the one tasked with giving the creatures binominal names didn't know anything about how those work aside from "two words in Latin".
The Sker buffalo was the one I had the least beef (heh) with design-wise, so the drawing has barely any changes compared to the official design, except me making the legs thicker (albeit it's really fugly, because I don't know how to draw bovids and used the pictures in the mentioned files as reference, realizing too late that the movie version looks slightly different from the concept art used in those). You clould call it a warmup, as especially the arthropods will get beaten with the redesign hammer a lot.

Can't wait to see your take on the bamboo spider and whatnot.
But yeah, loooots of "it looks and sounds cool so lets go with it without REAL research" was done.
And I'mm a say it, Kong seems more like a Sasquatch/Yeti than a gorilla, though in some ways I find that fits him better and makes him more of a cryptid, in line with the whole "lost dinosaur" aspect that is Godzilla and the other monsters.

And completely forgetting that one can make things that look and sound cool while including real research.
He looks like a cross of chimpanzee and gorilla that constantly stands upright to me. Some people mentioned that he might be related more to Australopithecus rather than modern non-human apes.

Yeah, after doing some real research, truth is stranger than fiction and it's easy to stretch some of current and past truths into something more exotic and stay logical.
And I heard that one too. It's still an old species of ape and i suppose could apply.
I mean, Godzilla wasn't ever nailed down as to what dinosaur-ish amphibious thing he was. In 54 to 1989, he was an undiscovered species of amphibious creature and turned into Godzilla when the nuke killed his family and destroyed his home. 91 was the retcon into a strange theropod of some sort (that was basically a panda as it was herbivorous or something stupid) that towered over any known one and became amphibious when he was placed in the ocean and mutated from radioactive waste.
... then we got Shin Godzilla which we got no fucking idea what it originally was, just that it keeps getting worse and adapting to everything and is actually a colonial organism like Hedorah/Destroyah. (the things on his tail are not listed in the script as "offspring", they are explicitly stated as "Shin Godzilla: 5th Form" in all the documents and are based off of the appearance of "perfected soul" in Buddhist scriptures combined with Godzilla)
I do like the fan theory of future "shin" movies involving "Godzilla" to mutate into other toho creatures. One horrific example was him becoming king ghidorah.

That it is, especially since the really weird stuff happens outside the tetrapods, which seem to be the only species the average designer cares about.
The Legendary version is pretty hard to nail down, too. General appearance might suggest a crurotarsian, but then there's the issue of gills and a palaeozoic origin.

Legendary Goji seems like some mid zone between theropod and sauropod (early sauropods could optionally be bipeds) and I suppose structurally, he's more similar to a theriznosaurus, but has much more body bulk, kept the sauropod shaped legs, and grew the tail for a tripod stance for the large bulk, yet again, doesn't explain the gills.
Of course, the absurd best idea I've heard is if you watch the bastardized version of Godzilla raids again, retitled "Gigantis the fire monster", it mentions that particular Earth had a pre-paleozoic period where the planet was saturated in radiation and it was one of the cornerstones for the growth of life; everything intaking and processing radiation. Some able to weaponize it the same way creatures can weaponize water via making it the basis for toxins, venom, so on and so forth. basically, it seems that Legendary-verse is using this as the primary basis for their super creatures who went into hibernation when radiation levels dropped.
I'm still curious as to how King Ghidorah will be explained. Multi headed animals are never viewed as a positive in wild growth, though it's also possible they are mock heads.
I get the funny feeling that Ghidorah will survive Godzilla 2 and show up as a "common foe" during Kong vs Godzilla.

Structurally he resembles more an ancient crocodile relative (like Postosuchus) rather than a dinosaur, considering the scutes. However, neither crocodiles nor dinosaurs have claws on their fourth finger. One interesting suggestion I've seen that its a highly-derived labyrinthodont, which would fit the palaeozoic origin as well as the presence of gills.
Well, that's pretty much what they did in the 2014 movie, too.
Either he will be a complete freak of nature that somehow not only survived, but thrived with its condition or at least two of the heads aren't heads. I've done an onychophoran-based design once (didn't bother uploading, the drawing is ugly) where the heads are limbs, with the middle head being a pair of limbs fused along the middle. The idea behind that is Ghidorah's species being among the first MUTOs and Lobopoda went pretty nuts during the Cambrian explosion. But I'll see what the actual designers cook up, I hope it's something interesting (please no alien).
With the way the Mutos were dealt with I find that a bit unlikely.

Yeah I'm not thinking an alien. Skull Island places Kong, Godzilla, and Ghidorah as earth based creatures, albeit with Ghidorah in the class for Super Predator (cave drawing depicting "other kings" with Kong in one, Godzilla in another, and Ghidorah towering over both of them in a third).
The cambrian explosion certain did make a lot of strange things. Opabinia with 5 eyes and an elephant trunk claw. Anomalocaris being a massive multi finned proto crustacean that could chew through trilobite shells and anything else it wanted.
Aye, I'm quite eager to find out what explanation they give.
Rodan and Mothra are pretty easy, albeit large versions of things we are familiar with. hell, even Godzilla and Kong. King Ghidorah... we got nothing like that.

huh... it would venture into the "plant/animal" hybrid territory, but that is something we could theoretically look into. it would explain the large wings as being solar foils of sorts to assist in photosynthasis, though the problem comes with his mobility, which is rather absurd when compared to, say, biollante.
I'm leaning a bit more towards mock heads that are functional but brainless and are technically a pair of long arms. The creature being propeleld to a class higher than Kong or Godzilla or anything else due to it's ability to bite and consume and fire the gravitational breath weapon from them, along with the ability for the massive creature to take flight by using said gravitational manipulation. It would all fit into the somewhat "radiation = magic, i ain't gotta explain shit" method of these creatures.
... Of course, it could fall into the category of said anemone and all three heads are just tentacles that serve a mouth located at the base, much like you depicted in one of your images a while back.

Not sure whhy the florafauna is being brought up, but leaflike wings would be a good idea, and a way of feeding on radiation, too. There is a number of photosynthetic animals with symbiotic algae in their tissue, fully mobile sea slugs being among them.
While a design with a mouth at the base of the necks would be something I would love to see, methinks the regular fans will turn into poop-flinging monkeys should that actually be an official design. The constant complains about the gills, feet and proportions regarding the 2014 movie were annoying enough, and those design changes were pretty tame.

I heard a handful of complaints at the feet and virtually none about his gills.
There was a joke or two about his girth but that was the same for the potbelly on the GMK Godzilla. i think it's safe to say anything that would be SLIGHTLY different would make those tender people go bananas.
But if we're gonna go with something akin to his three primary designs ( 60's, 91, and Rebirth of mothra 3, which is erroneously called Grand king Ghidorah);
1; He has to bolster Gold as his primary color. I instantly thought of the gold plating of solar foils so photosynthasis as an additional feeding mechanism could work for his much more grand stature.
2: 3 heads, 2 tails, 2 massive wings. The 2 tails works as a balancing agent, so that's simple, perhaps even with a webbing between them to assist in flight. The wings already were mentioned as possible solar foils, but his 60's version had tight curly hair on his heads, which we could even say is a type of moss/plant that forms symbiosis with the creature. Everything about him seems to be easily thought up without changing it too much or fighting "science as we know it", until we get to the 3 headed part. Mock heads? Limbs that only look like heads? Those fit with what we're familiar with. Actual additional heads? Nothing in our world has such extra appendages due to fighting over the main body and various health problems that arise due to one head breathing and one head eating/drinking at the same time.
Basically, heads will roll if the cackling, flying, "lightning spewing", three headed gold dragon doesn't show up as a cackling, flying, "lightning spewing", three headed gold dragon.
