I've been listening to R.E.M.'s "Nightswimming" for two hours on repeat now and crying. What is it with those songs that aren't even sad, but they're just... melancholy? Onions? I expect to cry during "The Living Years" or "Dance with my Father" or "And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda." But it's songs that the lyrics are maybe kinda melancholy and the music belongs to itself, but the empty space inside makes you bawl. "Change" by Blind Melon. "Ooh La La" by the Faces. "Cure for Pain" by Morphine. That sort of thing.
"Adam's Song" is somewhere between the two. It's sadly exhilarating, but accurate because every suicidal kid on the planet recognizes those lyrics as a perfect description. "Another six months, I'll be unknown."
I'm not even an R.E.M. person.
This was me last month breaking in a new brush pen on a really big sheet of paper, and then deciding to keep playing with it digitally. I love this Cutout look, I'll have to keep experimenting.
Should I put Krystal not enjoying her sandwich in here someplace?
