"One.. two.. one.. two.."
He counted out loud, following his previous footsteps in the grass.
"One.. two.. one.. two.."
His legs bent with each movement, circling the same patch of grass on the hill he used to practice on every morning.
"One.. two.."
The sun rays started to make their appearance in the distance, forming rainbow reflections over the morning dew in the grass.
"One.. "
He handled his nuiweidao with care, almost caressing each blade of grass.
"Two.. "
He mowed swiftly to the left, raising up his right sword in a circular manner. The blade cut through the grass, raising small fragments into the air along with the fresh morning dew. He lowered his right arm just to raise his left one and, with another sharp movement, cut through the air in front of him, causing the various fragments and droplets to spin.
And thus, the Dance of Swords began.
"PRYSM!"
The golden pheasant, startled, fell facefirst into the grass. When he turned around, the familiar figure of a bearded vulture was staring at him from above.
"Is this the time to dance around?"
"I was practicing.." Prysm responded as he started to get back up. "What are you doing here anyway? I thought you went back to Empire City."
"I did, but then I got a call. You've got a new job incoming for you, kiddo." The vulture handed Prysm a scroll and a bag of rings. "These should cover the cost of the travel, but from then on you're on your own."
The pheasant opened the scroll carefully.
"Monopole.. Bling the Rat.. mpf, I should still have something left from the last job. Thanks for your concern, Ben."
"You're welcome."
The vulture feigned a bow. Prysm looked at him unimpressed.
"Is it all?"
"Yes. Just, sign down as usual and we're good to go."
Ben handed him a pen and took back the scroll, opening it widely. Prysm took the writing utensile in his hands and wrote down his signature on the bottom line. The vulture smiled.
"Perfect." He murmured while closing the scroll. "Now, this one stays with me and this one.." he took out another scroll, this one of more recent manufacture and with the same information written on the previous one. "...goes to you. Don't lose it and finish the job before the end of the month."
Prysm snatched the scroll out of his hands.
"Thank you, -Ben-, I know how to do my job. After thirteen years I don't need a scavenging bird telling me what I should and shouldn't do."
"Precautions are never enough." replied Ben, shrugging. "I'll see you once it's all done for your pay."
"Yes, yes, now leave me."
Prysm gave him his back. The bearded vulture, understanding that those words were his finals to him, fidgeted with his pen a bit before putting it back in his jacket and walking away from where he came from. Once he could no longer hear the footsteps of the scavenger, the golden pheasant sighed.
"And here I thought I could finally take a break. Oh well, there's still time. Where was I? One.. two.. one.. two.."
I needed a new desktop wallpaper and I liked how one of my Prysm's sketches came out so I finished it!
