This should absolutely be made canon so we can get Libre out of the game, and go with something that's actually interesting. With over 700 Pokémon to choose from, there's absolutely no reason why it needed to rely on duplicate species to fill a roster of 16 characters. Especially since they could've literally made the exact same character using Hawlucha, and just given him wind attacks to replace the electricity.
Which I'm pretty sure the Wii U is still waiting on, although at this point I wouldn't be surprised if they just skip Wii U DLC, and release a definitive version of the game on the Switch instead.
One Pokémon I really wanted to see was Hariyama. Especially after seeing Machamp is basically Zangief, Hariyama could've been E. Honda.

I imagine him being really slow and difficult to land hits with, but in exchange he can take tons of damage, hits like a dump truck, and perhaps also has a bit of natural super armor to compensate for his slow speeds, perhaps requiring him to barge into openings with his own iron defenses rather than striking during something more standard like an opponent's delayed recovery.
Swampert would probably be more interesting since they could give it a Mega Evolution, and would be one less fighting-type added to the game already having a few of those. I had just always been thinking Hariyama because of the whole Zangief/E. Honda to Machamp/Hariyama thing I mentioned above. Also because I've always felt Hariyama to be a bit of a neat Pokémon that seems to be hugely underrepresented compare to some others, which is something pretty much no starter needs to worry about (except against their fellow starters).
I think Swampert would work because, well, we already have the other two. It could be a slow and powerful fighter (unlike Chandelure and Garchomp, which are strong and pretty fast).
And, tbh, this is my first fighting game that I've actually enjoyed (aside from Smash, but that doesn't count), so I don't really know who those characters are, eheh.
I also want Lopunny because, well, it would be a fun and fast fighter. Lots of kicks!

This game did make some interesting choices with its roster. I never would've imagined Chandelure in a fighting game, and I was kinda surprised by Braxien too- isn't often a middle evo gets the spotlight. Well, other than the ol' yellow merchandise-maker.
Personally I'd have liked Cosplay Pikachu to be the only chu in the game. At least she's got some personality to freshen up the tired Pika formula.

Delphox is my favorite Pokémon, but I'd probably have to say Braixen is the cutest, especially the one in Pokken and the anime.
And yeah, that's basically Serena's Braixen in a nutshell. Loves being theatrical (due heavily to it helping Serena's eventual dream of contending in Pokémon Showcases), and even in standard battles always adds a lot of flair to its moves before attacking, such as performing a few backflips or airborne pirouettes along with some baton twirls leading into a Flamethrower attack instead of simply firing it off. It's also quite moody, usually in a positive smiling way, but it has been shown to be equally emotional when upset, angry, or disappointed. That's why I feel Pokken Braixen is basically an alter ego of Serena's.

TBH, I'm not good at online. Only Rank... E4, eheh. I just stopped playing due to a Chandelure that kept hitting me with it's beam before I could block, counter, dodge, or anything, really. Which was right after a Hyper Beam Spam Mewtwo.
Offline, though, I'm almost done with the Iron League.

You cannot counter either one's hyper beam, and trying to jump dodge with Lucario is quite risky. Your only option most of the time is to block, but Chandy's beam does not take away any health if you block, so you just have to be very careful as you inch closer to them. Mewtwo's beam can chip health, but it's balanced by how much recovery time he has after he does the beam.
Also, I used a Counter to avoid the beam just earlier today, so Counter works (as long as it flashes blue).
But, yeah, I'm sure. The problem is that this game is weird for me sometimes... It activated Synergy when I hit LB (I JUST let go of RB, tho, so, I can understand.) Sometimes it doesn't even counter when I'm holding both buttons.
But, yeah, I'm holding RB as I'm standing.

Meh I'm a zard and regularly get crushed by braixen's because yeah I know the mini fireballs don't do any block damage but darn it I got to get in there! (not to say I don't sometimes win against braixen. Sometimes I do but she makes me groan at times) libre on the other claw I typically have no problems with.
