Cloakers are a somewhat obscure hazard of adventuring: living garments which masquerade as possibly-enchanted cloaks and then strangle and devour anyone who puts them on.

The eldritch cloaker is perhaps a distant cousin, or more likely an example of convergent evolution- somewhere between a cloaker, a mimic, and shoggoth, eldritch cloakers take the form of long, hooded robes with "decorative" teeth motifs; inside the cloak is an ever-shifting mass of tentacle-like tongues and more teeth.

Eldritch cloakers typically seek out "hosts" to wear them, looking for individuals with knowledge of black magic and the realms beyond our own. Unsuitable wearers are often devoured, but someone with the right "qualifications" may earn the allegiance of the eldritch cloaker, which lends its extended senses, supernatural durability, and instinctual understanding of rituals and summoning magic to them- in this way, eldritch cloakers serve as "familiars" for cult leaders or high-ranking cultists.

An eldritch cloaker can, if so inclined, use its tentacles to forcibly puppeteer the body of their "host", using them to assist in locomotion or defend itself. Some less hostile eldritch cloakers may instead opt to use mannequins or large dolls as a body for this purpose, sometimes even concealing their true nature and masquerading as a "normal" (if odd) individual.
