Deck was a run and an outcast among his people. He went in with the Lions Circle, a biker gang, who turned out to also be into industrial sabotage. When they got too violent, and when he realized how dangerous Knife was, Deck split. He later encountered her and shot her to save Chester, resulting in her cyborgization.
