I've been repeatedly surprised by how much substantial dialogue he's been given in every episode thus far. He's the main character of a very short anime, so I severely doubt they can justify offing him. Furthermore, the tone and images in the opening theme do not suggest he'll be fodder either. It would be far too jarring. It's true that anthro characters are frequently disposed of, but that's because those characters were never truly meant for the limelight of the story. This character however, it's arguably all about him. His dialogue makes him intensely likable as a character; he has an unprecedented amount of emotional substance, compared to so many other anthros...or even human MCs!
As for the Leomon complex: Leomon is a very special case. Not only can he never truly die (being digital and capable of rebirth), he was written to die every time. The creator is doing this on person with the character; it's the gimmick. It's unfortunate for those of us who really like the big guy, but it's hard to take it seriously once you know it's a pivotal part of his character.
Believe, Joe! He'll make it! :D

The anime adaptation of the light novel will run for only 12 episodes. From what I've grasped from only the first 3 episodes, the creator is good with establishing believable characters in a short amount of time. Because there's not much material, I think there has to be more concentrated substance, otherwise, the audience won't feel interested. It's very hard to pull such a thing off though. Truthfully, I cannot outright know the fate of the MC tiger (despite my sheer optimism); however, if by any chance he does die, I will respect the character that I saw before me as one of the best anthro personalities I've seen thus far in anime. He's an admirable model I will undoubtedly take to heart and consider when creating my own characters.
