This is a commission Marc so humbly graced upon me, the character had never been drawn before so I am the first to take a stab at him, the cloths he is wearing was originally to be black, however with all the detail I was terribly afraid of folding the folding and detail with just putting black over top, even though I would have shaded it to be highlights and shadows, it still would lose, so after much thought, and watching a lot of Afro Samurai I came to this type of stylistic conclusion.
The katana was another design on the handle, originally it was a type of clay wrap around into the shape of a snake (much referenced by the actual blade I own) but after I finished it felt to strange and foreign to the artwork, so I scraped it and placed in a standard katana handle (like another one I own lol) now it feels more natural.
The lettering, I sadly forgot what it means, I know I have it wrote down someplace but it is very early in the morning and I haven't slept, however when I ink this I fully intend to tell what it means.

Changes to come? Well after I full ink this, I'm going to take a brush and paint in the swoop in the background giving it that textured bristle look, and also I'm going to change the lettering from horizontal to vertical, along the lower edges of the artwork itself, and may go in and write my own name in kanji at the very bottom of this, just to keep up the style.
