So little back story, this started with just the second girl in the picture. I drew her because I read an article talking about how the beauty industry has for years given this image that dark skin tones are undesirable and less than. Also how this effects young girls when forming a sense of self worth. This broke my heart because I've always found darker skin beautiful and artistic. However I found that I really haven't drawn too many characters that fall past a "caramel" skin tone...mostly because I almost never get to draw for myself, it's always for others. Well I rectified that by drawing her and she was so popular on FaceBook that I drew her some friends that also help with inclusion. I took a poll on FB and chose fan given names:
Amina - Fili - Roxie - Gwyn
The thing I loved about this was drawing some under represented people, like a realistic middle eastern girl or a girl with vitiligo. Honestly it was even fun drawing an asian girl that doesn't fall under the stereotype trope.
