Here's a shot of the lion avatar couple that I'm working on. While the lions get all their new features scripted (like expressions, color changeable mane and tail tuft and much more), I'm constantly adjusting them, mainly their heads and eyes.
A definite release date will follow - but they're sure to be launched this summer.
Second Life screen shot - hardly edited (some rough brightness adjustment on the lions to match them a bit to the cave background)

You have a very interesting style. It's too bad that the SL human avatar base was modeled so horribly, it's stretches all your detailed fur textures.
My only critique would be the shading on the feet looks extremely defined, might wanna tone it down a tad. Also lions don't have dew claws on their hind legs, but I don't know if that's a tip off to human anatomy (5 toes) because they are anthro.
Both ways nice job, I can tell a lot of hard work went into these!

Yeah, the SL avatar mesh leaves a lot to be desired. Wish I could import my own...
As for the feet: good points, especially the dew claw bit. Maybe I'll look into them again. I'm hopelessly behind my original schedule anyways, so a couple of additional weeks won't matter all that much.

Thanks, and yes, I toyed with that thought. I'm sure it'd be fun to learn all about fur shaders and whatnot.
However, as limited as SL is, there is something appealing about creating avatars in a persistent virtual world. Typically, a picture is being looked at for merely seconds, or maybe minutes, if there's some sort of connection. Not so with avatars: As fleeting as this real-time 3D "art" form might be, for a while everybody who wears my avatars and uses them as some sort of an extension of their personality, there is a longer and emotionally deeper impact than a picture could achieve.
I like that.

Maybe someday they'll update that old poser model.. ruth.. base. I HATE HER SO MUCH. XD Good luck! I don't know if taking off a dew claw and lightning shading on the feet would take much longer than a day? unless you've already packages everything? Otherwise don't go back and do everything just because of my tiny critique. ;D
