what the water gave me
Kara! my lady!!
~~~
• she lives primarily in the waters off British Colombia, and migrates with her (rather large) family to Alaska and California
• her tribe's people are very similar to the Haida in culture, beliefs, heritage, etc.
the two have historically been intertwined and assisted and traded with each other for many thousands of years.
• anthropologists believe they evolved their markings to ward off any would-be predators, similar to red milk snakes and viceroy butterflies.
ain't nobody messin' with orcas
• they mostly eat fish (salmon's her fav)
• she is very gay
• her fav colour is purple
• her body is rather thick to keep her warm in the icy Pacific (please don't draw her stick-thin)
• her tail is rather stiff, closer to cetacean tails than fish-like ones. she would have difficulty 'sitting' above water, and can't lie on her back
• she blinks sideways when above water; her nictitating membranes always cover her eyes when below it
• she takes hormones and likely will all her life. she does not, however, plan on ever undergoing surgery. sexual dimorphism between male and female merpeople is rather limited - female breasts are hardly larger than male ones unless breastfeeding, and all genitals are internal unless in use - so Kara finds no reason to spend that much on changing so little.
• my dad thinks the phrase 'native-american trans orca mermaid' is hysterical
