Oliver Cromwell was an Member of Parliament for Huntingdon during the reign of King Charles I, and became an officer in the Parliamentary Army when the English Civil War began.
The ram helped create the New Model Army that eventually defeated the Royalist forces, and was a leading light in the effort to try the Stuart King for treason. Afterward, with the Commonwealth declared and the monarchy abolished, Cromwell became ruler in all but name as the Lord Protector.
He's shown here in the New Model Army's cavalry uniform, a paw resting on his sword and the other grasping the banner of the Lord Protector of the Commonwealth. His face shows the steely determination that comes from believing that you're an instrument of God.
