Caught this little beauty bungie-jumping off a trash can while I was doing some yardwork. She's a Bold or "Daring" Jumping Spider (Phidippus audax) and fat with eggs. At a good 5/8-3/4 inch long (my finger in the background) she's the biggest one I'd ever seen, and was racing in circles in the deli cup until Lilshock put the camera in there for pictures..then she froze (OMGGIANTEYE!). I love jumping spiders, they'll actually turn their heads to follow you as you move past, and stalk your finger if you trail it around them. This one made no attempts to bite me, which was quite thoughtful of her, and she was released back into the yard after her photo shoot.

Aw, you found a jumper!
We used to get these in northern california when I was growing up.
Almost an inch long, and with a black and white abdomen, and brilliant metallic green palps.
I love how curious they are, and I kept a few for pets for brief periods in my terrarium.

...I think what I like most about jumping spiders other than the fact that they move much like I did at 5 with my then-insane ADHD and after drinking two bottles of pop is how their mandibles are such a pretty green.
We have this kind where I live too. <3 I wish I could have a wolf spider since they're a large version of a jumping spider.

Aww - cute little turret o' love! ♥oOOo♥ I need a better camera.
The local variety have great big chelicerae relative to their tiny body size. I always interpret them as puppy paws up begging for a treat.

the jumping spiders where I grew up were much smaller than this, usually about an eight of an inch or smaller. One this size allows you to get a very nice look. Such a pretty exoskeleton. I never had pet jumping spiders, but I did have one of those yellow garden spiders (the ones with the zig-zag on their abdomen and web) on my patio when I was little. I used to throw it ants and any little bug I could find. It was an amazing bug. that web had the tensile strength of steel wire. It even took on a praying mantis by candle light one night, and won. (there were some really neat shadows dancing that night) It was one bold little bug.
I ever see praying manti where I live now. I guess it's too dry.
