Have you ever heard of a Chez performer who calls his experimental group "Zga?" He constructs contraptions from coil springs and bits of metal junk all welded together on a steel table or even secured by magnets. He then plucks the bits producing odd sounding "Music."
As for a "Hawaiian Musical Saw," You know that is such an original and odd idea, I'm surprised no one has recorded such as far as I know. True, a Carpenter's saw is far more flexible than metal saws, but in the 1940s I'm sure mechanics had wood working tools on hand to either build crates or perform light carpentry around the place. I know a fellow over in Pasadena who's an expert on saws and odd "Novelty music." I think I'll ask him if he know of any recordings out there of musical saws with a South Pacific bend.
Sometime I ought to tell you about my idea of using a steam electric power plant as a "Musical Instrument."
