well down here the F-111 received the Nickname the PIG. Sadly they were all retired at the end of 2010 and we are sad to see them go. They were replaced by the F/A-18F Super Hornet which is completely unsuitable for the role they have to fill.

GAH..hate that plane...they were never suited to any role save their original design...when we (Navy) were forced to buy them, they were unsuitable...and the new bigger ones are no better. theyre killing my EA6B in favour of that...thing.

they are the best strike plane in the South East Asia area and they were heavily modified to make them the best in the world. Which makes their replacement by the inferior F/A-18F Super hornet and the F-35 JSF so much more painful, they suck so much compared to the F-111. All the Government did was decide 'We will buy American because we have always bought American' despite the fact that current US warplanes have not had any major changes sine the early 2000s. They should have been looking at Russia since the SU-35 Flanker and the MIG-29K are many millions cheaper and they come with training and support for maintenance. They also are more maneuverable and more rugged than their US counterparts.

Billions of our tax dollars wasted on a crappy US replacement and over 100 Billion invested in the development of the JSF which is mostly set up for what the US needs and not the rest of the world.
