Woo! Been experimenting with some sculpting techniques over the last few days, in an attempt to put more details into tiny sculptures.
While I was at a doctor's appointment, I swung by a craft store on the way home and found that they sold gold and silver plated necklace chains. Immediately, I thought: "Wouldn't it be neat if I could sculpt a tiny Neffertity to hang from that chain to wear around my neck?" But alas, I knew it simply wasn't possible. My sculptures may be awesome to look at, but tiny details like spikes, horns, and thin tails break soooooooooooo easily on the small ones. So wearing a sculpture around my neck just couldn't be done without shattering it.
Then an idea came to me.
What if I could make the clay stronger...?
So I got to brainstorming, trying to think of how I could make the clay stronger, without destroying it in the process. You see, polymer clay is great for sculpting- but it breaks down when exposed to alcohols. That means A LOT of sealers wouldn't work, because they are alcohol based. And a water-based sealer would be too thin. I was racking my brains and getting all kinds of frustrated, when I started messing around with my clear resin to relax. I've been trying to learn how to cast crystals for another project I've been planning to do in the future. That's when the idea dawned on me. If I coat the sculpture in a reeeeeeeeeeeally thin layer of clear resin, it will harden enough so to protect it from breaking, without obscuring too many of the details. I went to work, furiously sculpting this tiny little Neffy here to test it out. She's only 2 inches long, and all her details are painted on. (Originally I wanted to make her entirely out of colored clay, but she was too tiny and had too many details for that to be possible. )
After all was said and done, I coated her with resin and waited 32 hours for it to cure completely. THAT WAS ONE OF THE LONGEST 32 HOURS EVER. I was so excited and nervous to see if it would even work. On the one hand, if it did work I would be overjoyed! But on the other, if it didn't it would've meant that the hours and hours of hard work I put into sculpting her would've been a waste. So this morning I got up, checked on her, and VWALA! She came out great! :-D

I'd like to make these an available commission type. (Of which I'll be adding to my commission chart; time permitting of course.)
---They will most likely sell for $50 each, seeing as they have a great deal of work to be done to them.
Also, the chain for it will be available in two options, [Sterling Silver Plated] and [14k Gold Plated].
If you would be interested in one, please let me know so I can get an idea of how many people would want one.---
*This will be the last thing I post for a while, as tomorrow I fly out to see
midnight_yamikidate for a few days. *excited screeching*.
Thanks for checking out my work!

I would LOVE this! I feel like this is a good way for people to have their characters with them all the time if they wanted....But I also feel like this is a wonderful idea for couples or engagement ideas!...
She looks sooooo good, I love the details. Ild love to see how it sits on an actual neck, but other then that I'm all for it
