I've taken it stock af to do autocross twice and it did great. 4x4 would be worse. Higher center of gravity = not good. More weight = not good. Sure all wheels spinning would be slightly quicker, just barely, but back to the more weight statement. All you need is 2wd and a good lowered setup and you'll be fine.
You wont burn rubber if you have the right tires and know throttle control. My truck is 4200 Ibs as is right now which isn't that bad compared to others. With it being 2wd, it sits pretty low compared to 4x4s that sit high so my center of gravity is already good. I would not make this into a drift truck or be the kids who want attention and blare shitty music from their many subs that is just all bass.
All I'd need to do is lower it 2-3" in the front and match it in the rear with Belltech street performance shocks and front Belltech springs. I don't need it slammed on the ground like these stance nation kiddies. Add Belltech sway bars front and rear. Swap from 265/65r18s ATs to 275/60r18s performance tires, going with a LOWER profile tire. You don't need to go higher. Add Stoptech slotted rotors with Baer performance brake pads and boom... race truck.
Throttle control is what you use to go around corners without losing traction which is used in what I do. I'm assuming you do alot of light to light drag racing?
