Here is Hortence Trudeau, Director of the Bureau of Superheroes Canada. She is a very powerful but rather, snobbish French-Canadian moose.
Name: Hortence Trudeau (Mighty Moose)
Species: Canadian Moose
Height: 6’ 4”
Weight: 210 lbs.
Age: 35
Occupation: Director of the Bureau of Superheroes Canada
Weapons: None
Powers: Flight, High level super strength. Internal ‘radar’ abilities and super eyesight
Costume: Leotard with matching boots and gloves in the colors of the Canadian flag
Weaknesses: Control freak, huge ego
History: Once an investigative reporter with a reputation for snooping, Hortence received her set of superpowers quite by accident. While investigating reports of a corporation dumping unsecured nuclear waste in the icy northern section of her native Quebec, a petite but determined Hortence stowed away aboard a freighter she suspected of transporting nuclear waste in Hudson Bay. The clumsy young moose cow was quickly discovered and taken to the bridge of the freighter. Her suspicions were confirmed as standing with the captain was none other than Fifi Bordeaux, CEO of Quebec Chemicals International. The angry poodle ordered Hortence to be tied to one of the barrels of nuclear waste she planned to dump into the icy waters of the bay to effectively ‘do away’ with the nosy moose reporter. Fifi’s henchfurs laughed as they tossed the bound Hortence and their cargo of nuclear waste barrels off the ship. Holding her breath, all Hortence could do is struggle against the ropes that held her as she sank deeper into the ice cold waters of Hudson Bay. Several of the barrels started leaking the nuclear waste material and began to cling to the young moose’s body. Instead of infecting her with radiation poisoning, the waste had an unexpected reaction to Hortence’s unique body chemistry. The waste caused her body to grow and gain superpowers, abilities she soon put to the test when she flew out of the water, lifted the freighter with ease and then delivered it to the nearest Canadian Naval Base. After retrieving all of the unopened barrels of nuclear waste (and finding some clothes and a mask to use as a primitive costume) the press in Quebec dubbed her the ‘Puissant Elan’ or ‘Mighty Moose’, the newest protector of the nation of Canada. In 2000, after losing out to her cousin Lady Canuck to become Canada’s National Heroine, Hortence registered with the Bureau of Superheroes and in time, rose to the rank of Director of the Canadian Division.
Mighty Moose is famous for her snobbish attitude towards those she supervises. One well known incident involved a demonstration of her fighting prowess in front of a live TV audience several years ago. Wanting to show off her superior fighting skills, Mighty Moose chose to spar with a new recruit whom she considered the weakest of the available operatives, Bantam Beaver. The fighting beaver jill was much smaller and lacked super strength or flying abilities; an easy victory for Mighty Moose, or so she thought. Using superior tactics along with her Bantam pole, the young beaver surprised the overconfident superpowered moose cow by defeating her. When she woke up and as the cameras were still rolling, the furious Mighty Moose accused Bantam Beaver of cheating and then ‘banished’ her to America. This incident caused much stirring, not only in Canada but in the hierarchy of the Bureau. After receiving a severe reprimand, Mighty Moose was allowed to continue in her post as Director. Overall, though Hortence is a superior bureaucrat and strong leader, she still lacks in many ‘furson’ skills.
Personality: Mighty Moose tries to be charming in public, but often comes off as sounding snobbish and condescending towards nearly everyone, friends and foes alike. She believes she is the greatest superfur of all time and her only true friend is the Bureau Director of Chicago, Atomic Ape, whom she has had an ‘on again, off again’ romantic relationship with over the past decade. Even with her personality flaws, Mighty Moose is a seeker of justice at heart, and a superior superheroine.
