Idalgo is a trained botanist and herbalist and owns a botanical garden in which he regularly works and adds new samples to. The garden is free to the public, so to make money he primarily breeds and sells orchids as well as other rare flowers, and sells home-made poultices. His assistant is a young serval biologist name Fuse. She is not only well versed in botany but ornithology and entomology, so the garden also hosts a wide array of mostly tropical birds and insects.
Idalgo is clean and serious about his work. Most days he's in his personal greenhouse studying new plant hybrids and caring for the growing flowers in his care. Other than flowers such as orchids and lilies, he is quite fond of many different types of cacti, succulents, and tropical flora.
Despite being quite astute, he is generally relaxed and easy-going, as Fuse's buoyant personality has helped him loosen up a little from his rigid youth. He enjoys going on walks in his garden along with fuse as she introduces new fauna into the environment and babbles on about various things.
He pays very high attention to his appearance, and enjoys wearing a variety of jewelry. His favorites are made of (pure) gold, jade, obsidian, and silk fabrics. His most common accessories are his glasses, nose ring, and three gold chokers. When he's not wearing gardening aprons, he wears dark, modern clothing of few colors, generally with long, light, flow-y sweaters or jackets on top (his wardrobe is pretty predictable!).
He's not very concerned with romance and has few, but close, friends. He really enjoys his alone time with either his plants or a good book and often doesn't contact others for days on end.
He has a younger half-brother, Chiro, who he shares a mother with. Chiro and Idalgo didn't get along in their teens because of his mother's and step-father's strained relationship, but nowadays they get along pretty well and visit each other occasionally.
Idalgo, along with Fuse and Chiro, is one of my oldest OCs still in use and although he's kind of stayed the same over time, i really think he's grown over the time i've had him! <3 i changed his design just a little bit but stayed simple with it.
here are some really old refs from 2011 and 2012 where you can see/read what he was like back then!
i'm really excited to commission some art of him once i finish a new ref for fuse
