Menenja is a character I created for my Dnd group. He comes from a place called Shadeshire, and his species is called Nightfolk. They're essentially cricket-humanoids living in a world of perpetual darkness. They're very peaceful, and they have an open door policy on tourism. They didn't even have the concept of war or violence until meeting other races.

Menenja specifically is a tour-guide. He spends his work hours at an entry gate waiting to show travellers from a specific realm around his homeland. Fortunately for him, the gate he watches isn't used much. He basically sits around for twelve hours a day doing crosswords and reading books.

My party fell in love with him immediately and tried to recruit him, despite his lack of any combat skills. They were very insistent, but he told them he liked his job. It's low-stress, and he gets good benefits and decent pay.

Thety couldn't argue with that, and let him guide them around the city.
