As Arro reached into the chest and removed the last remaining gemstone, the only thing going through his mind was keeping his emerald green eyes. Whatever form he took, he wanted his eyes to remain the same. Whether that factored into what happened next or not is anyone's guess, but he felt himself rise up above the ground, the gemstone shattering into a million fragments.
He felt himself merging and shifting... becoming less a humanoid and more a strange, undefined mass. What he soon became aware of, however, was his sight. He was able to see incredibly clearly... and in every single direction, all at once!
As the transformation stopped, he got a good look at himself and realized that he had become a magical entity few had ever witnessed. A strange creature of almost eldritch design.
The beholder heard a voice speak in his mind. "I hope you don't mind keeping watch over my treasure chest while I'm collecting new gemstones. Beholders are known to be really incredible treasure guardians, after all, and there are always more transformation customers to attend to!"
The voice was that of Firelight, and it vanished as soon at it disappeared.
Well, he was a beholder now, which meant he sure as heck wasn't going to head outside anytime soon. But... on the bright side, his eyes were still green!
