Here's another weekly, as part of my attempt to get these back on track. For this one I decided to go with a redraw, based on the recent poll on my dA account. It was quite interesting to see this one turn out first, since it was up next from the previous poll I ran. Obviously I've come quite a long way in terms of anatomy, although I still have a lot to learn. At least now the animal is recognisable as a dog without having to spell it out. When I drew the original I didn't have a particular dog breed in mind, nor any references, which was another reason why it looked pretty weird. So, based on the general look of the dog in the original, I decided to take a Labrador as a reference for this image.

I have been thinking quite a bit lately about the judging yourself thing. There are weird biases implied when talking about your own art and there really was a time when the original was the best I could do and I was quite pleased with the final results of those drawings. I've often wondered if I were able to show my current drawings to my younger self, how would I judge them. Obviously it's pretty tricky to imagine something like that, but I do think I would be pretty impressed by these drawings. It's a thought that I like to keep in mind when self-doubting thoughts enter my head while working. Redraws like these obviously also help a lot to put the improvements I've made over the years into perspective.

I'm kinda wondering what happened here to make this happen to poor May. I'd like to think they encountered Lily, the magician from the Johto series again. May might've gotten into some kind of fight with her and called her a bitch or something like that, leading to this embarassing situation. Does beg the question i feel like I've discussed on drawings like these before, but are the regular animals a thing in the Pokémon world? Obviously they aren't around much; would people even recognise this creature that May now is as a dog, or would they see her as some weird kind of alien creature. What ever happened to Lily anyway. There's someone running around who can turn people actually into Pokémon and that's just a throwaway episode with her never returning or people even acknowledging that happened at all.

Lots and lots of rambling on this one. I do hope you all enjoy this redraw, there should be more coming in the near future, perhaps I'll send out some more polls about them, there definitely are a lot of fun. At the same time I do want to keep working on new stuff as well. Anyway, if anyone has any criticism for these redraws, I'd really appreciate it, since these are based a lot on improvement, so any and all comments are very much welcome (as they always are).
