But the Berkut was a one off tech demostrator and the composite materials and aluminium that it's made of would never survive exit from an atmosphere, much less re-entry. Plus making the cockpit air tight enough for space travel would probably cost more than building a new vehicle all together.
I get that it's fiction, but the idea is really bothering me for some reason.
