Unlike here in America, there's probably some absolutely pristine, unspoiled areas in Australia where one COULD take a swim and not worry about broken glass, or junk and trash or what have you that spoiled the area from other ridiculously uncaring visitors.. ( course all you'd have to worry about is the local *wildlife*.. hehee.. )
hence why I said "only the local wildlife".. and I'm quite aware that the top ten "most poisonous in the world" animals live in the wilds of the outback.. believe me hon, if I was ever offered a trip down there, that fact would burn itself into the forefront of my head toot sweet..
At Cairns, Queensland, they have a night zoo. Its like a regular zoo, but you tour it at night, to see the nocturnal animals. You get issued a flashlight, and in groups of 20-30 with a guide, head out into the zoo grounds. Dinner too.
We saw and fed saltwater crocs, viewed a tank full of brown recluse spiders, watched a zoo handler milk a eastern brown snake venom (for making antidote), strolled by the cassowary compound (like ostriches, but considerably more dangerous and bad-ass) and finished the night (pitch black now) feeding 'Roos fruit wedges by fire light. Those red's can be almost 2 meters tall....and as demanding as a puppy when you have a handful of 'roo snacks. They don't take no for an answer....and are remarkably smart and personable.
Saw lots of wildlife on our Daintree Rainforest jeep excursion too.
I'd go back in a minute.
