This thing here is the final boss of the DnD campaign I run. He may not look like much, but he's 9 feet tall and stoic and creepy. He lives in a forest of petrified trees in an abandoned citadel. He's something of a folktale, or that's what the elders in the game tell everyone.
In actuality, he is very real. He's spoken of in hushed tones, but commands everyone's respect. He is the only being that can produce the medicine for a disease that threatens virtually everyone in the game's universe. For countless ages he has taken living people as offerings in exchange for a cure to be introduced to the water supply of every major area.
The cycle is broken however, when my party is sent to make one such exchange. The Lamb has enough souls. It's hunger sated. But there are still things it wants. It thoroughly trounces the level 1 party but doesnt injure anyone. Instead, it projects thoughts into their heads.
Images of the countless victims, and horrors that threaten to break their minds. But they survived, and became his employees. They're to find seven beasts, fallen gods of a forgotten age hidden away in places The Lamb cannot tread. They are to slay them, and retrieve the magic key from each corpse. Seven keys.
Each time they retrieve a key he unlocks a bit of the armor he's wearing and his already massive power grows.
They have no idea how to stop The Lamb, what will happen when he has all his keys, or how to cure their disease without him.
Should be fun to figure out. At present they have 2 keys. So they've got a ways to go yet.
