When I wake up to Creepy Notes
This Morning's misadventures in the life of an artist take us to a dangerous situation for any artist you can find in the art community. I share with you all because it is important lesson to know. I will be paraphrasing heavily as my responses were quite long. Lesson: Always be wary of Strangers on the internet.
A Blank account sends me a note, "Can I help you with anything? Art or anything?" they ask. A Completely Blank account I find when I look at their profile. No Art. And it looks like They've asked this to hundreds of people if they can help with their art. Their Journal Stating that they are doing this to amuse themselves.
I reply to them, "I don't trust you. You look like a scammer." and suggest to them to draw a few things to help others see what kind of help they could be in art. Or prove their trustworthiness even a little. (Now just to let you all know, i only do Colabs with people I know and trust, so I most likely would have declined any help with art... I wanted to let this person know what they are doing is pretty shady seeming, and if they really did intent to help peope they can do X,Y,Z to show that to someone who might be interested.)
"How is this a scam? I am helping people for free. There is nothing to lose" Blank replies.
I scroll down through countless comments on their journals and profiles. There is no sign of them helping anyone. They have only replied to people who questioned their "Kindness".
I respond, "You show no such thing that makes me believe you are not a scammer. I have seen this being used for scams in the exact same way. If you want to help people, at least show your art, and prove you can be trust worthy" *Suggest them to try art trades as it is an activity that builds and shows trust with users.
"If I am helping others for free, where does the scam come in?" Blank responds.
*Me on other side of the computer screaming at the screen. THE INTERNET IS DANGEROUS! THINK ABOUT HOW THESE PEOPLE ARE FEELING RIGHT NOW! YOU ASS! If this were real life you'd be a creepy masked stranger drooling desperately asking random people if they want help, and that is scary! We do not know what you are planning to do, what you are capable of, but it looks shady as fuck. Like murder or kidnapping, ransom, mugging, or other misdeed you'd think a creepy masked person would do to someone. My knowledge tells me 98% chance you are a scam artist.*

There are so many red flags coming from this guy that even if they intend to actually help people, I cannot trust them at all.
This user is aggressively asking to help people in projects. This is dangerous behavior right off the bat. The words they use to try to usher a person to accept their help. They could simply advertise the artists, give feedback to the artists, and support their work, but instead they are trying heavily to wheedle their way to work directly with the artists' projects. Even after many users suggest those simple things.
Their account is Blank. This shows no way for this user to help the artists, and they have thus responded with not posting up art examples when asked. It makes an account have Nothing to lose if it gets banned. One does not go to a store with no products on display, the owner refusing to show even a picture of the product, then buy the product with only the word of the owner suggesting you will get it. (by the way, they responded to me with "But I am not a store" to this one)
They have asked this to hundreds of users. When you ask hundreds of people the same question in such a short time, it is extremely fishy. This is a method often used by scammers in the art world to get as much as they can before running off with everything they can get their hands on. Even if you are not lying, sir, taking on that many projects at once will only hurt you as well.

LET ME TELL YOU A STORY, This follows a similar case that I got to be witness to years ago. an art scammer where BLANK would offer help, get Work in progress(WIP) images from an artist on a project they promised to help with. Then, Blank would post on a Secondary hidden account those WIP images and sell them as a YCH (Your Character goes Here) Commission. He'd Convince the unsuspecting commissioner to pay in the wrong format (Paying through Paypal as Friends/Family), giving them no chance for getting a refund. THEN they would deactivate that account and do the same thing over again with multiple people running off with Hundreds of dollars, and defaming the actual artists' names as well. It was a huge mess.

If the world wasn't filled with Shmucks like the above story, perhaps this would be different. But the internet is dangerous. It is filled with people who want to use kindness to do bad things. It is filled with people who take advantage of this anonymous power an art account can have. They take advantage of real people by wearing this mask that is so easily thrown away and replaced with a new Mask. There are a lot of these people. Not all Blanks are bad, but there are a lot who are. So, even if Blank is in fact trying to help people, I'll have to refuse. I'd rather not accept help than to have that chance where you really are a person with bad intent towards the art community.
