The Saturn Hawk Series of space craft are designed and built by the fictional company Razorline Technologies (RT corp.) in my brothers story.
Since an alternate reality version of myself is the head of RT corp. I get to design the vehicles and most of the weapons that company produces. That includes the Mod14 I posted earlier.
The Saturn Hawk is basicaly a bunch of designs assembled into a single product. It started with the fusion canister canon or FCC for short.
The fusion canister canon uses thorium cased miniture fusion reactors designed to lance through armour and shields and then explode at a set distance, this distance is determined by the targeting system.
If two targets line up the computer has the capability to set the reaction rate so that the reactor core doesn't hit critical untill it reaches the last target, allowing one shot to destroy two or more targets at once. However, just lancing through a target usualy only kills the pilot or detonates the reactor of the enemy craft, if the canister explodes inside the target the explosion is often big enough to completely destroy small fighter craft.
The rings left behind are ejected out of the bottom of the craft, as well as other shell casings.
The FCC recoil transfer bars are needed to transfer the massive recoil of the canons directly to the engine carrier, if the recoil was absorbed anywhere else it would damage the space craft.
In the R1 the transfer bars where too weak and prone to metal fatigue, they would bend in some cases causing the canon to shift out of convergence and possibly damage the hull plating beside the bar or canon, it would also jam the canon's feed system. In the R2 this was fixed by increasing the diameter of the bars and changing materials.
The gattling gun is a standard 20mm, 6 barrel, rotating chute feeder. However, there is also a drop in laser canon that has multiple lense sets allowing continuous fire without overheating. The capacitor bank replaces the maganzine for the gattling gun.
The artificial gravity is generated by a field generation web set into the cockpit glass, on the R1 this had a bad habbit of inverting gravity when it malfunctioned, and even generated high enough fields to injure in some cases. It was not powerfull enough to kill someone.
The R2 has a revised gravity web that shuts down during malfunctions. It also has the ability to generate 100g+ fields, enough to counteract the most intense g-forces generated by intense combat maneuvers.
The ejection system is two staged on a double pull system, first pull of the handel and the cockpit pod ejects from the body of the craft. Second pull causes the gravity field to shut down and the glass breaks away, the seat fires out like a modern aircraft ejection seat.
The engines and main reactor where designed to function together as a unit. The turbine engines run on electric motors that are capable of rotating at the speeds necessary to generate thrust levels not seen in even the most modern gas turbin engines. These are only used during atmospheric flight. There are vectorizing deflectors to allow steering of the craft inside an atmosphere.
The plasma ion engines are highly advanced evolutions of the ones currently in development by NASA, The saturn hawk is a sub light speed combat craft, but is capable of 0.7xls (times light speed). It is one of the fastest combat craft available in the universe.
The main reactor is a non-radioactive single chamber design coupled with an autobalancing power output controler. This allows the pilot to concentrate on the fight without the need to constantly manage the power requirements of his weapons and systems.
The hud (not completely shown)
The hud of the R1 consists of a single rear laser projection screen containing weapons information and both the primary and secondary target tracers. The reactor information is on a display at the pilots right side and the left side is reserved for combat data and data logs.
The R2's hud has an additional two screens, one on the right containing the reactor information and replacing the screen on the lower console, and one on the left replacing the combat information, leaving room on the left console for data logs and other less important information.
Both secondary screens can display the primary target tracer, but the secondary tracer remains constrained to its small block on the tactical field at the bottom of the main hud screen. Both secondary screens are also touch based, allowing manual reactor control when needed and manipulating combat information.
Manual reactor control is only used when there are special weapons loaded or when the reactor or its automatic control is damaged.
The pilots have to wear special suits called R suits, there is an R1 suit and an R2 suit. R2 suits work in both R1 and R2 generation craft, but the R1 suit only works in an R1 craft.
I know this was alot to read, but I wanted to write this somewhere for people to see how much I put into these designs.
