Finally the quantum level, where things are tiny and abstract and properties are only described as intrinsic and "have units similar to other concepts". Here we get into the nitty gritty of the quarks and the gluon. Quarks are named quarks because of a really, really, really impossibly stupid story involving a drunk seagull order liquor (seriously, not even kidding, google it). Quarks come in six different versions but only two matter (haha). The up quark has a mass (that's in units of mega electron volts per speed of light squared but lets just ignore that) a spin of 1/2 and a charge of positive 2/3. The down quark has a mass roughly double that of the up quark, a charge of negative 1/3 and a spin of 1/2. (just as a side bar, these charges make sense if you think about the charge of protons and neutrons. A proton is +1 and is made up of 2 up and one down or 2/3+2/3-1/3 which equals 1. Neutrons are 2/3-1/3-1/3 which equals 0). Gluons are bosons so they have an integer spin (this time of 1) it also has no mass or charge. It comes in eight colours and no none of them are the colour you want (nor ever actually a colour). It mediates the strong nuclear force and since it has a spin of 1 it is also a vector boson, none of this matters. If I decide to talk about bosons and spin and all of that I'll go into more detail but until then this is it. life is hate
