One day, Great Blue Heron decided to crown himself king of all England. "I am the biggest bird!" he said. "I am the tallest and the strongest and the heaviest. I have the biggest neck and the longest legs. You must bow to me as your king!" Nobody else in all of England could say no to him. He was right about everything he said. Everyone else had to give him all the fish he wanted or else he would be very angry. Great Blue Heron love d being the king of England and he grew big and fat and angry. Then twenty years later, Blue Jay shot Great Blue Heron in the eye with a musket. "Great Blue Heron is dead!" Blue Jay yelled. And all the birds yelled together. "Now we are free!" And Blue Jay became Prime Minister of England and he ate all the seeds in the land.

It is much deeper than it looks. You see, the gryphon represents the natural order; the avian half contains the head, which does the thinking, the beak, which does the speaking, and the wings, which carry it through the air (the only proper mode of travel). The mammalian part is simply for sitting on and outputs little else but excrement and shedded fur.
