There's only two Disney live action films I ever loved the first is TRON and the second one is the 1979 sci-fi film THE BLACK HOLE. Say what you will about this film I still kind of like it so much that even if I have it on VHS and DVD if it comes on TV I stop for the whole day just to watch it it has that super campy feel and style that only Disney could had pulled it off.
I drew the ships on Inkscape and then use GIMP for the space and the Black Hole.

Funny thing is, I could see these ship designs being used today for interstellar travel. They're practical in that they don't look very aerodynamic or stylish (since in space you don't have any air resistance to deal with), plenty of area for where the fuel reserves would be, lots of antennae and sensors, these designs might actually work, maybe with just a bit of tweaking.
The long scanning of the "dead" Cygnus in total silence and almost pitch black of space after its discovery will always remain one of my most beloved and emotional moment in sci-fi films. Maximilian still looks extremely impressive and menacing nowadays I think (one of my top ten fav robots), and John Barry's music always brings me tears and tension although I know it by heart since more than thirty years.
Anyway, I find the original language movie slightly "flat", in french they gave Reinhardt a strong german accent that's absolutely... Well, colorful to say the least
