Abandoned ice factory in Berlin.
(Not ice cream, real ice, blocks. In a time far away there were no electric refrigerators.)
This was one of the last operating factories, production stopped in 1991.
The huge cold machine was built in 1914 and was in use until the really end.

In the late 19th century, this machines where developped do cool beer down. First on a ship on which the capitain wanted to have cool beer with him, later industially brought to perfection. As a result, the famous german wheat beer became an all year experience. Before, it was only available in winter seasons and brewed in cold icy caves :)
Of course, many branches of trade quickly used that ice for almost everything :)
Again a damn great picture... I'm impressed, parts of the machine are still there! Damn, they had so heavily nice machines compared to todays cubic, flat, computerized, white, easy-to-clean production lines. If the 12-18-hour workers at this time only had the ability to enjoy their great looking world :/
