Please take a moment and read the Artist's Comments. It's rather important.
So here’s what I been working on. It might seem strange at first, but the comic should be switching to this style. It’s going to be more fun for me to draw. It will still be black and white, but this style. We’ll be having some growing pains I’m sure.
Concerned Person: You’re switching style… mid-comic… in a comic planned for print?
Me: Yes, yes and that wasn’t always the case. I never planned to go to print until a few months ago, which is why it’s taken me time to get things ready for print. The old files were never saved in a print quality format.
A lot has happened since creating the comic. I’ve always said it was a work in progress.
Since day 1 the style has been changing, switching, improving. But yet not to what I was satisfied with. It has become increasingly difficult to keep pushing out new comics. I switched to black and white, which gave a little help to it, but no matter how much I want the story, I have really disliked my own art. I had two choices at this point in time. Change the art, or kill the story. I’ve put a lot of effort in to the story and continue to do so. I can’t be like all those other dead webcomics out there that leave people in forever cliffhanging limbo, and I refuse to give up on my dreams. I found a style that I think suits me, that I allows me to enjoy drawing again.
I started this comic to tell a story and for the joy of drawing. It may sound selfish, but it was even for myself. I never imagined it would become anything, but I kept trying. Kept updating, kept drawing, kept pushing. And I will continue to do so. There will still be reliable updates, something I’ve not wavered from since day 1.
It’s growing pains. I know some people may get bent on the change of style. But it’s really a story that makes the comic first and then the art. If people decide to stop reading now, they weren’t that hooked on the story. Or so that is how I see it. Most people didn’t stop reading Batman or Spiderman because a new artist came in. They stayed because they were engrossed with the story, they enjoyed it and the characters.
I apologize if anyone is upset with this decision. But when the choice came, do I cliffhang you all or alter the art, the choice was simple.
So, I understand your confusion. I’ve spoken with many people about this decision. A long time reader, two trusted fellow web comic artists I love to death, and of course my better half. I refuse to remain stunted and ungrowing.
I hope none of that sounded snotty or stuck up. I just don’t think I could locate different, maybe better words in my head.
Time changes, the world changes. So do styles. I just mighta been a bit drastic this time. ^___^
So join me Monday, the story continues, it just looks a bit cuter. ^____^
