It's kind of funny but I think Shakira herself would approve of this. The animators wanted to make her a reed at first, but she insisted on hips and thighs much more like herself iRL. She was a belly dancer before she became a Spanish celebrity.

Aww that's so nice she insisted on that! Gazelle ended up looking very similar to her.
This reminds me that I read once that her former music teacher did not let her pass her canto exam cause he said she sounds like a goat. The fact that she ended a gazelle in the movie, which is like a really elegant goat, may also be related to that, or so I like to think of it! XD
