Another Alien! Yaaay!
The legs should be stubbier, but my head loves long legs and arms, dang it.
The Laoys are an avian alien species from the Planet Laos. They are the only "intelligent" species known that can fly. The quotation marks are used because their intelligence is... well, specialized. They can speak with a limited vocabulary and learn different languages, but they never invented technology on their own. They got into the galactic community due to their ability to deconstruct and invade everything. Most of the other species see them as a pest, as you can find them in various places they shouldn't be in, and they are loud and obnoxious and very talented thieves. However because of their self-consciousness people are reluctant to hunt them down. So nearly every space station and colony got at least one flock of Laoys somewhere and most of the time they are okay with it.
They come in many forms, sizes and colors. They are mostly between 25 and 40cm tall and colorful. Different Laoy populations do have different beak sizes and forms to adapt different diets. When on the ground they mostly move on all fours, otherwise they run and jump on two legs.
The Laoys never reached space on their own, they never even launched a satellite, like the Osket did before they were found. They live in little huts up in the trees in large communities. There are no political structures or even leaders in their society, they never got this far when an Ikassi ship found their planet and landed. The Laoys did, what they can do best, and invaded the ship, and it took a long time for the Ikassi to get these birds out of the places that could kill them when they start the engines again, and they took many Laoys with them. After people heard about the newfound planet the first tourists came and ignored every warning... the rest is history. Laoys everywhere.
Some people actually tried to train the Laoys to do simple tasks, and they where pretty successful. And then there's the one pirate in the outer territory who got her own flock and uses them to capture ships just by infiltrating them and letting them do their thing, and she's alarmingly effective with that strategy.
This little guy here is one of the smaller Laoys and is called "Langfinger" (long finger in german, coll. for a thief) and he got on the ship of one of the future protagonists.
