Decided that if I am to start uploading some of my origami stuff here, then I might as well upload some of the older stuff, too :3
Anyway, this here was designed and folded by me. It is from one uncut square of paper (uncut meaning no cutting whatsoever).
I made this one earlier this year and I'm very happy with how well it came out :) (especially considering how much work I put into it XD )

the scales are actually incorporated into the design Here is the crease paatern if you're curious http://www.flickr.com/photos/bluepa.....7603582621150/
Instructions.... I didn't get them anywhere. I designed this model, so I made them myself. Here's a crease pattern for it if you're interested http://www.flickr.com/photos/bluepa.....7603582621150/
Hmm, CP doesn't look too hard, I'll give this one a go in due time. I have to acquire the paper for, (fucking costly) and fold (fucking tedious) a Ryujin for the display I plan to put up at the exhibit area at OUSA this year (unlikely I'll finish it in time) first though. But hell, I've got a lot of free time, and 96ths is a very easy division. (thirds, I do well with. Fifths....not so much >__> This is the reason why I'll probably never fold the 2.1)
The CP for this is difficult. The difficulty arises largely from the amount of scales that come from the center of the paper at an angle different than the rest.
And if your folding of Ryujin is to be your first time attempting the model, do NOT go straight to using good paper. It is not a smart idea and it will more than likely just not turn out well. It may take a lot more time, but make the effort and try at least one rough draft first.
I will, unfortunately not be doing a display this year at OUSA, I've only produced one, maybe 2 new models since last year, and I don't want to be showing off all old stuff >_>

No it's not my first time. I did 2.1 a bunch of times in middle school. Granted I had no idea what I was doing, used tracing paper, and they came out shitty, but I know how to fold all the parts of the Ryujin 3.5 now. And both of these look to be fairly similar, IE, if you know where to start, everything else falls into place quite neatly. Example, you should do the locking/subdividing molecules on the Ryujin first, (and on this model, I assume since it uses them) because a lot of diagonals are made once they're all finished. (not so much here)
okay good lol I've just run into quite a few people who've taken on the task of folding a model that is more than they can handle on their first try with nice paper and I always feel the warning is necessary haha
Although, the folding process behind this model won't be exactly the same, due to the fact that the pleating does not fall onto a normal grid (such as one would use in box pleating for example). Because of this, I personally find it easiest to get form the pleats of the chest scales as you do the scales and then finish the sunken bird base structures from which the pleats come from first, the fold most all the of the rest of the model until the pleats which are used to fold the tail scales are formed, then of course, fold the tail scales.
But that's just how I do it. Use whatever methods you find work best. And good luck :) both in getting your ryujin done in time for OUSA as well as making this if you do end up doing so

Heh its not getting done. I have so many other things I wanna do for that display. Ill just replace it with the other stuff this year and work on the Ryujin over the next year. (lesser birds of paradise, phoenix 3.5 (do you know how to do the tail? I cant find any help on that thing...), Raijin, if I can finish the design for the body, Ryuutsuchi, etc)
Clarification, the diagonals are creased much more easily once all the molecules have been installed. Oh and I didn't mean I was buying nice paper, I'm actually going to be using a 72" roll of Kraft paper, but thats why its so damn expensive O__o its 72"x900' (!) Which leads to $70 shipping charges on a $100 roll of paper...if I could find it in a store that'd be wonderful, but nobody sells rolls that huge. The largest "nice" paper I have is 30" foil, and its kinda ditzy, and I would NOT fold a Ryujin out of it. I really want to be able to take a brush and blowdryer to it when it's collapsed...hell maybe I can get it to rear without glue and struts/wire core. (haha fat chance)
yep! The base looks roughly like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/bluepa.....57603582621150 when unfolded. Huge pain in the ass to fold, don't want to do it again, yet at the same time I'd like to fold a new rendition XD
