I never heard of this until your post. I was alarmed that there were flying foxes, just to show my knowledge of mammals. We have bats aplenty here in Texas, but no one eats them. Excellent post.

They can grow pretty big here, I'm from a place called coffs harbour and at nightfall they all fly out to find fruit in the tens of thousands, the sky is black with bats. That skull is about 9cm long, I've seen ones with with a good 50-60cm wing span, and we don't eat them much here but they do in new Caledonia. Most have about a 40cm wingspan when they grow up. They're super cute, and they are a type of fruit bat
