This is a repost of a small thing I did for Memorial Day once. It's just a small reminder that this long weekend is not 'just' about a barbeque and the first weekend of summer.
No matter who they fought for; they all went through Hell.
If you can, just say a small prayer in their memory.

Short but very poignant. I come from a military family myself(though I've no interest in following in those footsteps) so this struck a cord with me.
May those who have fallen on the battlefield never be forgotten.

Kath and I watched an episode of PBS's "An American Experience" called, 'The Great War.' I hadn't seen any in-depth documentaries about the first World War so it was a learning experience for me.
I would ask that not only the lost be remembered, but also the lesson their sacrifice taught us.

The reason we watched it was my parents had seen it and were surprised at how much hypocrisy and intolerance were generated by it in American society and especially the government. Woodrow Wilson was the right president for the time. At the same time he was a narrow-minded bastard.
For me, it all serves as the consummate reminder that nothing and no one is absolute. There is no right or wrong, there is only point of view. That the majority of humane ideas (equality, freedom, the strong protecting the weak, etc) are embraced as 'good' simply points out that these behaviors are the most beneficial and that most people with open minds can accept this point of view.
War is crazybadevil... and yet it never goes away. WTF human race?
*ahem [climbs off his little soap box]* Sorry. Knee-jerk thing with me.
