Bio:
Born in Tampa, Florida to an Irish-American family, Finn is the child of a spotted skunk mother, Alana, and striped skunk father, Kieran. The Sunshine State wasn’t exactly kind to young Finn as a kit. His family’s heritage and penchant for practicing wizardry drew the ire of the more religious-conservative adults, and made most of the kids his age find him odd for dabbling in rituals or celebrating the Samhaim instead of Halloween or Winter and Summer Solstice rather than more mainstream holidays. Finn gained a reputation for giving back as good as he got, and was often a mainstay in the principal’s office because of his sharp tongue and penchant for goading his classmates (and even older kids) into fights. He didn’t win them all, but he made it known that he wouldn’t back down, no matter how much bigger or meaner they were.
At home, his parents were very loving. His mother doted on him, teaching him the basics of magic and spell work in exchange for his efforts in school. If he received good grades, he would learn one spell over the weekend. If not, the time he could have spent practicing magic would instead go toward studying. Although, she usually broke and gave him some practice time anyway. His father, Kieran, worked as on the special investigations unit for the Tampa Police Department. On the surface, he solved the murder and missing furson cases no fur could solve, and often received a lot of media attention for his efforts. However, Kieran’s work caused him to run afoul of the infamous Traficante crime family after he led a case against Don Beneditto Traficante’s eldest child, Rico, that ended with the young heir dead following a shootout. No fur was quite sure which side fired the first shot, but Kieran insisted that Rico’s bodyguard, Mario Russo, had reached for his weapon. The enraged wolf called for the heads of each member of the Brennan adults, even going as far as leading the party himself. Finn returned home from school to find his parents bodies laying at the feet of the Traficante patriarch. The middle-aged wolf walked past him without fear, pausing just long enough to state that he held Finn’s father in high respect for his work protecting the city, but killing his son crossed a line. That respect, however, was the reason Finn had been spared.
From there, Finn was placed in the care of an elderly cat and fellow wizard named Ebenezar McDonnell, an old friend of the family. Ebenezar took Finn to live on his farm near Ocala and offered to help continue his magical training. Three conditions applied: Finn would graduate from high school, help out on the farm, and vow never to seek revenge upon the Traficante family. When asked why, Ebenezar refused to answer, save for a mention that “those sorts always get theirs in the end.” For years, Ebenezar refused to say anything more on the matter, until one day he told Finn to check the newspaper. Beneditto Traficante, his wife, and his remaining sons had died when their yacht capsized when a freak storm struck the Gulf of Mexico. The result of a powerful entropy curse laid by Ebenezar himself. Payback, the old cat said, for robbing him of his student, and Finn of his parents. But a low that Finn himself should seek avoid.
After graduating high school, Finn went to Hillsborough Community College to get his Associate’s Degree, then tried to get into TPD as his father before him. However, the police chief had been an internal affairs officer and a nonbeliever in Kieran’s “magic” when they served together. So when he saw Finn’s name, he rejected his application outright and had him blacklisted. Frustrated, Finn decided to turn his focus to his magic studies, and opted to take what money and belongings he had to his ancestral homeland, Ireland. He settled in Dublin and opened up a private investigation and consulting agency, rationalizing that those who lived in the legendary birthplace of magic would be less averse to his practices. Thus far, he has had some moderate success with the populace, but he has managed to team up with local law enforcement to tangle with supernatural threats, as well as some of the so-called super villains who try to run on his new turf.
Personality: Finn never learned how to keep his mouth shut. He’s got a sharp tongue and quick wit, and he’s not afraid to speak his mind, regardless of how big a thrashing it might earn him. And if it should happen that magic doesn’t work, he’s always got his trusty sword to even the odds. If all else fails, he’s got no problem raising a stink.
